Review of An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth – Chris Hadfield

One of the best leadership books I’ve read in a long time. I picked it up because it was about space. I couldn’t put it down because the author shared actionable insights about life and getting the most out of it. His words were visually stunning as he described life in space and life changing for me as he shared his insights on how making the biggest impact sometimes requires making the smallest impact. I never thought about going about your day as, “are you a -1, a zero or a +1?” Yes, that was a spoiler. When I look back at my life and business interactions from that mindset and review the impact I have had, I can see where I was each of those and how being a zero or a +1 was really the way I should have acted yet my actions in some cases made me a -1. I can also see how I could have

Adversaries Into Allies – Bob Burg

Another masterful book by the author of The Go-Giver. I found this book to have insightful and actionable information on how to win people over without manipulation and coercion. It is no coincidence that is the subtitle of the book! Taking the idea that influence is more than just making others do what you want, Bob Burg explains how anyone can, with slight changes in the way you speak and inevitably think, can become an ultimate influencer who affects change through kindness and empathy and without the resistance that prevents forward motion. On page 85 Mr. Burg says, “Not only do we see the world from our own set of beliefs but we assume that everyone else sees the world the exact same way.” In order to make a difference in the world I believe it is vitally important to “see” the world as others see it so you can understand their motivation. We cannot go into a conversation to

My Spirit is Not Religious – A Guide to Living Your Authentic Life – Tina Sacchi

One of the things that makes someone wise is opening to new questions that lead you down paths you never saw coming. I highly recommend Tina’s book to everyone that breathes and thinks. Tina’s book opened my eyes and my soul to areas I had thought I had clarity around my faith. I realized quickly into her book that I was still making choices based on beliefs from my religious upbringing. Guilt is one that quickly comes to mind. That is not to say those beliefs were wrong, just that they were not the whole picture and that they no longer served me. I was working from a lot of guilt places. I am beginning to see how I can let that go. Reading this book and working through the well thought out and insight filled exercises has helped me open new pathways for moving forward in my life. I learned new questions to ask that unlocked a deeper connection

The Go Giver

“The GO-GIVER” – Bob Burg

The Go-Giver – Bob Burg and John David Mann I chose to write a post about this book for the debut of this, my latest website, WiseWomenRead.com because this book tells the story of what this site is all about for me. I didn’t create this site to make money although I won’t complain if some happens to come along. I created this site to share with all of you what I am reading, why I am reading it and what my takeaways are. Yes, I do have some affiliate links if you choose to link over and buy the books I have read or am reading, but all the money from that just goes to help some really great charities. I first read The Go-Giver in 2008 when a friend recommended it to me. Arlin Sorensen is one of those people who, like me, reads a lot of books and shares with others about the books that have made
